you’re only words on a screen
a disembodied voice in my ear you give me nothing
you touch base you fly by always out of reach
you can’t stop you must keep moving
like a shark like a predator i’m not your prey
we both set traps for one another we both escape
free to roam free to hunt avoiding the other’s territory
a crocodile lurking in the lake a lion crouching in the high grass
no wildebeests in this jungle only the hunter and the hunter
their circle of life broken only by a spear
fashioned using opposable thumbs by beings more evolved
who will have us for dinner and wear our skins like trophies
